Situale Festival 2023
8th Festival of Iron Age Life and Cuisine
This year’s festival will traditionally offer a display of ancient crafts and products, which we will enrich even further in collaboration with artisans. Visitors will be able to learn the skills of pottery, glassmaking, furriery, weaving, wood processing, dyeing and felting wool, weaving, blacksmithing, bronze casting, and processing amber. Together with special guests from Poland, who are involved in experimental archaeology, and a group from Italy, who will present the life of people during the Iron Age of Northern Italy, contemporary with our Hallstatt-era Novo mesto, we will embark on a journey through time. Come and experience the magic of situlas, which represents a unique opportunity to discover ancient heritage and new innovative approaches. Let yourself be enchanted by the event and create unforgettable memories.
Get ready for an unforgettable experience that will take you back in time to the Iron Age! Join us at the 8th Festival of Situlas, which includes workshops for children, a concert by the Noreia group, expert guidance through the Situla monuments, a central theater performance, a handicraft market, and excellent culinary offerings.
5:00 PM to 9:00 PM | Children can create miniature situlas, make leather bracelets, and try their hand at fighting with handles, clubs, and archery. In addition, they can learn to dance, bake bread, and get painted with beautiful Iron Age motifs.
8:00 PM | The central theater performance, which portrays the courtship of a noble family, will undoubtedly be exceptionally attractive. We will be able to watch the prince and his suitor arrive on horseback and immerse ourselves in the magic of the event.

10:00 PM | For those who want to delve into history, we have prepared expert guidance through the Situla monuments at the Dolenjski Museum. There, you can learn more about the situlas, their production, and life in the Iron Age.
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM | At the handicraft market, you can buy unique products made by local artisans who will be making them at the event. In addition, you can also enjoy excellent culinary offerings based on ingredients from the Iron Age. Try dishes that our ancestors ate and immerse yourself in the magic of flavors.
