Kapitelj viewing platform
Climb the 126 steps to the 53-meter bell tower of the Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas. Its dominant appearance adorns the top of the hill above the old city center and completes the city silhouette. The Gothic church of St. Nicholas, called Kapitelj among the locals, is one of the central symbols of Novo mesto. It is decorated with Tintoretto’s famous painting of St. Nicholas, the library is located in its building, and it is surrounded by capital gardens bounded by a medieval defensive wall. A real feast for the eyes!
The four bells at the top of the viewing platform speak of the rich heritage, and a special feature is the new three-story oak staircase with a clock mechanism placed in the early part of the staircase. From the 24-meter viewing point, there is an exceptional view of Gorjanci with Trdinov vrh, the city center and the famous Trška gora.
