
Land of Hayracks
The Land of Hayracks in Šentrupert is the first open-air museum dedicated to hayracks. It features 19 drying devices from the Mirna Valley, with one from the area of Ivančna Gorica. It showcases the development of the hayrack from simple dryers to double hayracks – Toplar. The museum presents six types of hayracks in Slovenia: single (single, single with a cover, single parallel) and double (low, goat hayrack, Toplar). It spans 2.5 hectares with 1 km of pathways. It includes the oldest “Lukatov Toplar” from 1795, one of the oldest preserved double hayracks in the world.
The Land of Hayracks includes:
- Open-air museum with restored hayracks according to conservation principles.
- Center for the preservation of cultural heritage and education about hayracks.
- A network of preserved wooden buildings from the Mirna Valley, which comprehensively represent the economic and cultural life as well as the tourist offer of Dolenjska.
