Otočec castle

Otočec Castle, built on one of the islands of the Krka River, is the only water castle in Slovenia. When visiting the castle, it is worth noting some rare, still preserved architectural details (Renaissance, sandstone-carved entrance portal from the 16th century, decorated with marble medallions with Renaissance girls’ profiles). In the inner courtyard, on one of the piers of the central castle building, we can admire fragments of a profane painting depicting hunting and fishing scenes. Although it originates from the medieval tradition, it already betrays an advanced Renaissance artistic sense.
