The Gnome’s Hole

Learn about the folk traditions of Šmarješke Toplice and visit the home of the local gnomes! There is a cave in the village of Bela Cerkev, called the Gnome’s Hole. In ancient times, a long tunnel existed under the village, which was home to friendly gnomes who helped the locals. But because of the arrogance of a local young man, they were forced to abandon their home and retreat to the nearby hill, Vinji Vrh. Only one gnome remained to help the villagers, who gave his name to the tunnel.
