Viewing Bell Tower in Šmarjeta
The Bell Tower of the Church of St. Mary in Šmarjeta is a unique feature in the Slovenian landscape, as it has an observation balcony built at a height of 24 meters above the ground. In the bell tower, there are 6 platforms and 6 floors connected by accessible wooden stairs. On the last platform, there are three bronze bells. There are 127 steps leading to the observation balcony. From the bell tower balcony, a magnificent view opens up over the Šmarješka Valley, extending all the way to the Gorjanci Mountains, Trška Gora, and the surrounding area. Access to the bell tower has been improved by replacing the accessible wooden stairs and existing platforms, along with minor masonry and maintenance works. Lighting in the bell tower has been arranged, and an exhibition has been set up on individual platforms.
